Board games and video games. Part 1.
Good day, dear readers! More recently, the new 2015 has come and a lot of interesting things are waiting for us ahead. There will be holidays ahead when you need to give gifts. But there will still be a weekend, when there will probably be a free time, which is not always hunting to spend at a computer, console or portable. However, even in this case, sometimes I want to spend time after my favorite franchise, be it Civilization Or a series Assassin’s Creed.
For this reason, I will tell you today about such a direction of the entertainment industry as board games. And these will not be simple tables, but precisely those that have been released in one or another game series. I hope this small review will not only introduce you to the course of business, but also help you choose the right game for a pleasant pastime or gift. So, let’s go!
Anno
Let’s start, perhaps, with the games of strategic. And the first in this list will be a series of German computer strategies Anno. Three games were released in this famous game series: one by Anno 1503 And two software Anno 1701.
The very first of the above three games. It was released in 2003 (this is just a year of release Anno 1503 on PC) and is a simple strategy for 2-4 players. Here you have to develop your colony, building a variety of buildings, getting resources/money/otherwise throwing a hexagonal bone and sending your ships to study a small sea area in the hope of finding something useful for yourself. You should not expect revelations from the game, but it is quite good as a family game – there are almost no conflicts, since during the game each player is digging in his garden.
Anno 1701: Das BrettSpiel
The second game was released in 2007, literally a year after a computer analogue, and rather is the development of the ideas of the first board game than something new. The one who is familiar with the game Colonialists will easily imagine her game process (they are The Settlers of Catan). This game is a work of colonialists and the first board game from the series Anno. We build buildings, throw a cube and get resources, suffer from random events, send the ships to travel around the seas-oceans and hope to furnish rivals.
Anno 1701: Das Kartenspiel
With the third table embodiment of the Anno series is even easier. Das Kartenspiel came out simultaneously with Das BrettSpiel and is again a variation on The Settlers of Catan (though the card variation of colonialists; yes, there are such). You need to do the same as in the previous game, only now in the card format.
As a result, we have three simple games that are very similar to a well -known board series and are, unless, with a thought on the topic than the real transfer of the game series. But fans of the series Anno, Of course, playing your favorite games in the desktop will be pleasant.
Age of Empires
The next on the list is a cool series of strategies Age of Empires. Here we are met by two games – one in the second part and one to the third.
Age of Empires II
Game on the second part Age of Empires – This is KKI (collectible card game) 2000. You need to do the same as in the computer version: to develop civilization, passing through eras, mining resources, building troops and destroying the enemy – only in a card format. One addition to her came out with new civilizations, units and buildings, and it did not develop anymore, although, judging by the reviews, the game was good.
Age of Empires III: The Age of Discovery
The board game in the third part of the era of empires was released in 2007 and represented a typical representative of the Genre Games “Place Workers” (or Worker PlaCement). A bunch of plastic miniatures, a large and colorful game field and a rather interesting gameplay with the ability to smash an opponent – good ingredients in a recipe for a good board game.
It is difficult to say something meaningful about the game in the second part of the era of empires is a very old KKI, but the big game of 2007 is quite worthy of attention of fans. Reviews of the game are good, it is still on sale and even translated into Russian.
Sid Meier’s Civilization
Now let’s move on to one of the pillars of the genre of step -by -step strategies – the civilization of Sid Meyer. Three games were released on this wonderful video game series – two large and one small, card.
Sid Meier’s Civilization: The Boardgame (2002)
Let’s start with the very first desktop embodiment of civilization in a desktop format – a giant giant crust of 2002. In addition to the outstanding size and weight of the box, its distinguishing features were 784 plastic figures of various cities, troops and other things and a huge game field (approximately 1.1 meter per 0.9 meters). Unlike the computer version, the world map is not generated, but always fixed (which is undoubtedly the minus of this table), however, the gameplay is very similar to a third part of the nominal series – the study of the land, the construction of cities and the creation of troops, the study of technology – everything is here. Just a monstrous box for all lovers of the original.
Sid Meier’s Civilization: The Card Game
The second game is the card version of civilization, published in 2006 along with the 4th part, in fact, the civilization of the computer. In general – this is not quite civilization, but rather, as well as Anno 1701: Das Kartenspiel, Thinking on the topic in card format. In general, the game is special: Sid Meyer himself came up with it and nowhere except the collectible publication of the fourth civilization, it did not sell it. So you can find the game only for those who have already played up and decided to sell it: it is not sold in the dwarf stores and now.
Sid Meier’s Civilization: The Board Game (2010)
The company was released by a large, complex and insanely interesting table civilization in 2010 Fantasy Flight Games. Unlike predecessors, the game comprehended serious commercial success. It is popular and continues to develop. There were two two additions to her, which added new civilizations and technologies and diversified the rules with new nuances. In general, it looks like Civilization IV (if you take into account the field divided into squares, the presence of paradigms and so on), and you can do everything here that allows a computer analogue. Here you have a modular field and a tree (although, rather, a pyramid) of technologies, resource mining and so on the other.
The first two civilizations are difficult to recommend to someone other than devoted fans, but the last embodiment of civilization in the form of a board game I would recommend to all lovers of step-by-step military-economic strategies.
Eador: Lords of the worlds
We continue the board game in the domestic strategy – Eador: Lords of the worlds. Such a cool game and such a strange desktop embodiment. Although there are worse, but more on this further in the text. In this board game, the authors tried to convey to the players the feeling of what it means to be a local lord and capture worlds. But it turned out a simple card game, somewhat similar to a howling fool. Everything is very dependent on the cards that will come to you during the game. The design is good, but here, as they say, a good half of art from a computer game. If I really like the original, then you can take it – to indulge, yes, look at the pictures.
King’s Bounty
According to a series of strategies King’s Bounty Two games were released-one in 1991 in the original game of the 90th year, and the second 2012 in the game “King’s Bounty. The legend of the knight“.
King’s Bounty (1991)
For the limitation of years, there are hard to tell about the version of 1991 about the version of 1991. This is a direct adaptation of the PC version – we wander on the map, kill the monsters and get a reward. The decoration of the game repeats a lot of its ancestor.
King’s Bounty (2012)
Like Eador – This is a domestic board game on the domestic PC game. And art in the game straight a computer ancestor. True, it is one thing to put a flat art on cards, and another – 3D models from the game 2008. It is not difficult to guess that the first looks better. By gameplay – all the same slightly changed by the filled fool. True, compared to Eador, King’s Bounty Closer to the card analogue. As you probably already guessed, I do not recommend this game to anyone.
As a result, as you can see, in the case of King’s Bounty Everything is not so rosy – one game is outdated, and the other is just of poor quality.
Heroes of Might & Magic
Now let’s go, I’m not afraid of this word, to the legendary series of heroes of the sword and magic. Here we are greeted by two KKI very similar to each other in the fourth and fifth heroes and a large floor, floor table game in the sixth part.
The Heroes of Might & Magic IV Collectible Card & Tile Game
The first game in the universe of heroes was very similar to ordinary KKI with the development of the empire (such as KKI Age of Empires II, which was discussed above). The main distinguishing feature were small pieces of territories in the kit, of which a map of the world was compiled before the game, where great battle took place, as in the PC of the ancestor. Otherwise, everything is like ordinary KKI – starting sets, booster of random maps and territories, etc. I note that, as you can see from the name, all monsters, cities and art are taken from Heroes of Might & Magic IV.
Heroes of Might and Magic V Collectible Card and Tile Game
This board game is almost the equivalent of the previous. The same tiles, the same card engine. There are exactly as many differences as global differences between the fourth and fifth part of the PC of Games: new cities and monsters appeared, the heroes began to manage the armies without taking personal participation in the battle.
Might & Magic Heroes
The third part of the desktop embodiment (2012) is similar to its computer relative – a year before Might & Magic Heroes VI. The game has a large composite game field, about the same as in the 2010 game Sid Meier’s Civilization: The Board Game. You can play for any of the four fractions of the original game. Hire the heroes, create troops, fight and capture the cities. This will help pumping, artifacts found and collected resources. The game is quite complicated, but it has everything that the real fan of the sixth part of the heroes of the sword and magic is needed.
As a result, a series of games on the heroes of the sword and magic is ready to provide everything that the real fan of the series needs. Over time, these tables are getting better and better, so I advise everyone the last, still very fresh, given the long century of board games.
World of Tanks: Rush
Ahead of the mass online games.
First of all, of course, let’s turn to World of Tanks. In this Belarusian game in 2013, our tuned sumps from Hobby World released a pretty good creation. In the game you need to capture the enemy bases with your tanks. Not only tanks will please the player, but also the opportunity to get achievements (which could be better than achievements?). True, the guys had problems with the balance, but everything was fixed with the release of the game, so I advise you to play right away with it. Special joy for online tankmen gives the presence in the basic game and supplement the promo codes for intra -game tanks.
Eve Online
We continue online adventures by the game Eve Online. In 2006 CCP On their own, they released KKI in their online game, and in 2009 a large economic game was released to control the territory behind authorship White Wolf.
Eve: The Second Genesis
In general The Second Genesis The original follows the only exception to the fact that here you have to become a loner pilot, but managers of a large aviation corporation. Build bases, get resources, hire pilots and ships, and then smash the opponent. There are several changes in the mechanics of the game. For example, in this game the conditions of victory are different for everyone, and you can change the characteristics of your base secretly from others. In general, this game can be attributed to traditional KKI.
Eve: Conques
Big board strategy for 2-4 players. Here, as in The Second Genesis You control the whole faction, develop it, capture sectors and fight with an opponent. The game is quite well conveys the spirit of the original (the design also contributes to this). What is upset in this game is that all four game fractions are equivalent here. Clear business is that this is done for the sake of balance, but I want more diversity. Another point that can scare the player is long battles. The fastest: get rid of the game for two hours. It is quite difficult to install the upper border. But this is not a reason to refuse the game.
Both games are not brilliant, but completely reflect the spirit of the original, which cannot but rejoice. Fans Eve The game will definitely like the game.
Lineage II: The Boardgame
Now the turn of the board game has come Lineage II. It is difficult to recommend this game to someone. She came out in 2005 and even then she could be considered obsolete. Simple Mechanics “Throw-Dvin”, killing monsters, monitoring several points on a small map-this is all that this game can offer.
World of Warcraft
Finally we got to the same immortal World of Warcraft. Someone, but this game was definitely not deprived of board games. For this wonderful online game, as many as 5 games were released.
World of Warcraft: The Boardgame
The very first appearance World of Warcraft On the table dated 2005. Already mentioned earlier Fantasy Flight Games released a giant, monstrous board adventure game in the same giant box. There was everything that a real fan was needed – a familiar map and locations of the north Azerot, a bunch of heroes and monsters (total 136 miniautures), pumping, clothes, pvp. In 2006 and 2007, two large additions containing a bunch of everything new, which gave the game, gave the game a new breath. The game was even translated into Russian and many hunted (and even now hunt) for it as a treasure for the collection. However, this game has 3 big problems – a monstrously long battleship, a monstrously long -time party and the fact that it has not been released for a long time, which means it is very, very difficult to buy it. But even taking into account all these shortcomings, I would love to buy this box in my collection.
World of Warcraft Trading Card Game
Next, in 2006 from under the pen UPPER Deck And with blessing Blizzard appeared Wow TCG – Card game by World of Warcraft. What was she from herself? The most just way to explain is to ask if you played in Heartstone? If yes – then after playing this tcg you will see almost the same. With the only difference being that the emphasis is on the character’s ability (as if it were a fight in the arena in Wow), not on draft monsters. If not, just play in Hearthstone And you will understand everything. The very same Wow TCG Closed in 2013 for obvious reasons.
World of Warcraft Miniatures Game
In 2008, the same UPPER Deck was released, so to speak, the simulator Wow With miniatures. Before the game, two players collect a batch of 1 to 5 characters and go to kill each other in a small arena. In addition, there was a mode of study of the generated dungeons. Since 2010 it has been closed.
World of Warcraft: The Adventure Game
Together in the previous one, in 2008 Fantasy Flight Games released the last normal game on World of Warcraft. Directly, then this game is not suitable for horseshoes World of Warcraft: The Boardgame. It turned out frankly weak, with a small number of heroes, and represented a thoughtless staggering along Azerot from side to side. By the way, 8 mini of additions with new heroes (one in each) came out to her, but this game, unfortunately, did not save.
As a result, we have the following. By the game World of Warcraft One big, good, but protracted game, which, however, is interesting to play, good card games and a game with miniatures, which, unfortunately, have already been closed,. So if you are a fan of the universe, play in Hearthstone, But if you see World of Warcraft: The Boardgame, then be sure to take it. You will not regret it!
As you probably remember, I talked about the existence of five games in wow. And the next game: Monopoly in the wrap Wow. But it turned out that there is so much Monopolies by well -known computer games that I can’t tell me about them.
Offtop 1 (monopoly)!
The fact is that Monopoly – How is that Call of Duty From the world of board games. The changes in the gameplay zero, the game is outdated for 40 years (this year it will hit 82 years), but every year a new version is released (and not one thing, it seems). And most importantly: who buys it and why is completely incomprehensible. In this regard, the first offtopic will be devoted to various variations of the monopoly in a variety of grains.
However, first for those who do not know. Original Monopoly It is built on the principle of “throw-dart”. Before each move, you throw a hexagonal bone, move your chip along the game track for the right number and do something. Repeat yet someone will win. Why play it – I won’t know the mind, but here we are not discussing it. Now let’s get back to our rams. (Which, by the way, do not differ from the original other than design.)
Monopoly: World of Warcraft Collector’s Edition
Real estate in Azerot or in Kalimdor?
Monopoly: Sonic the Hedgehog Collector’s Edition
Now it is clear what Sonic spends on the levels of the ring.
Monopoly: Street Fighter Collector’s Edition
OK World of Warcraft (there is some kind of money), okay Sonic (there are rings), but Street Fighter..
Monopoly: The Legend of Zelda
Monopoly: Pokémon
Pikachu, I buy you!
I won’t know what these games can be recommended … And this is the heading Offtop 1 (monopoly)! I propose to be considered closed. We go back to normal games again.
Warcraft: The Board Game
After mentioning World of Warcraft you can not bypass the desktop game on a non -online Warcraft. This game appeared in 2003 and, according to many reviewers and buyers, turned out to be very weak. There was what the players were waiting for, but not the way I wanted. There are four races (which, as it turned out, are weakly different from each other), but there are no heroes at all, there are troops, but only three species for each race. Even an composite card and the ability to obtain gold or tree do not save the game. Heroes, although there were a addition to a year later, but it was too late to save the game.
Starcraft
Speaking of games Blizzard, You can’t help but remember about a series of games Starcraft. By Starcraft Two games came out: large beautiful and large -scale from FFG And … uh … what is it at all and why? Okay, first about the big.
Starcraft: The Board Game
Another giant box from Fantasy Flight Games. Until now, many are considered the best board game in the universal Blizzard. A ton of miniatures, thought out gameplay, three completely different races – cheers! This is the game, so the game. And a large addition to the game will add a lot of new to the gameplay. The game has a difference from its computer ancestor: fighting here unfold at once on several planets. Otherwise, everything is as in the original: we are building a base, we buy a bunch of different troops (here they are unlike Warcraft: The Board Game really a lot), study science. Miniatures of detachments look just like in a PC game. You look at the hydraulis of grains and think to yourself – yes, like him, I find out! Like World of Warcraft: The Boardgame This game with fire will not be seen in the afternoon. In stores, this box cannot be found now, but they sell it for fabulous money. However, the game really costs a lot, there is something to pay for.
Well, the game managed Starcraft go out in a series of games RISK. I have to make an offtop about it, since except Starcraft, This ancient game does not hesitate to release its versions for everything that the fantasies of the developers will be enough.
Offtop 2 (RISK)!
RISK – This is another Call of Duty From the world of board games. The mechanics of this game is still unchanged since 1959, although a little more interesting than that of a monopoly. The bottom line is the following: each move players receive troops in the number of controlled zones, then move their armies and attack each other, then throw the hexagonal bones – who has the larger number, and killed the enemy. Continue until the victorious. Very primitive mechanics, although with a fraction of excitement. Perhaps that is why every year a million games are released in various universities/films/games with such a subtitle. All games have unchanged mechanics with only small additions and different design.
